Training Weekend Harderwijk

Billy Lacroix has provided photos of the training weekend that took place over the Easter Holidays in Harderwijk

Hellrazor wins GTS Mildura 100 and the King of the Murray.

Hellrazor towing Peter Proctor & Jason Walmsley took out the GTS Freight Management Mildura 100 and thereby took a clean sweep in the King of the Murray. This year the King of the Murray included the Berri 100, Southern 80 & Mildura 100 (Robinvale not included as the event was not held due to high water)
The team of driver Mark Cranny & observer Damien Matthews took the Superclass event in a record time of 31:27 taking 3 seconds off the 2008 time set by Hellbent with skiers Jason Walmsley and Chris Gelle. Hellrazor also took 2 seconds off the record time in the James Transport Dash for Cash.

A number of records were broken over the weekend and full results can now be found on the Mildura Ski Club Web page

Racer of the Fortnight – Brad Dutton

Racer of the Fortnight – Brad Dutton

25 Apr 2011

Brad Dutton from Hamilton, New Zealand is the our new Racer of the Fortnight.

Brad works as a Part & Accessories Manager at Rollos Marine , based in Hamilton NZ – a family business owned by Brad’s parents.

Brad competes in a number of classes as a driver, observer and skier. He is looking to go to the 2011 worlds as an observer in Women’s F2 & Junior Girls.

Brad has a number of titles and championships under his belt, they include: NZ National, North Island & Series Champion at Under 13, Under 16 and Under 19 level as a skier. NZ National and Series Champion as an observer in Under 13 Boys, Under 19 Girls, Ladies Open and Ladies F2 in the last 2 seasons. Went to the Worlds in 2003 as a Junior and gained a podium in round 4 and 4th overall. Come 2nd 3 times in the 100 Miler – The worlds longest circuit ski race.

Memorable Moments

Winning the Trans Tasman Challenge as team captain against Victoria in Australia.
Skiing the NZ Bridge to Bridge behind Aussie boat Noizworks with Cara Johincke, going the quickest i’ve ever been.
Gaining a worlds medal in the 2003 Worlds when i got 3rd in Junior Boys in Round 4.
Winning the Karen Cartmer Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to Ski Racing in NZ.

Biggest Influence on Ski Racing Career

Definitely my father, Greg, Drove for me most of my races in my ski racing career. Taught me how to drive and supported me financially

Race / Venue which is special

The NZ Bridge to Bridge is probably the most special to me because it is in my backyard and my parents business sponsor the race and has been a big part of my life for many years.
The 100 Miler is probably my favourite circuit race held at the Blue Lakes in Rotorua – such a picture perfect venue and such a gruelling race.

Is there a race or title that you want to win most ? Why?

The NZ Bridge to Bridge – Just because its the Bridge
The 100 Miler(been 2nd 3 times and 3rd twice) because it is the longest most gruelling race we have here in NZ and possibly the worlds.

What sort of training do you do?

At the moment I am not skiing as much but still try to do a bit of training – mainly Mountain Biking and a bit of social skiing, planking etc. Did a lot more gym work when i was skiing competitively all the time.

Advice to a younger competitor

Be Humble in victory and defeat and let your skiing do the talking. Ski Racing is 90% mental.
Its not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
No Guts, No Glory

Skirace.net Hits Spike at Southern 80 to Almost 4,500 / Day

It always amazes me that this site draws in so many visitors every day, 24hrs a day from all around the world. When the site started 15 years ago, I remember being amazed that it had 6 visitors in one day!

As a result of the recent Southern 80, the site racked up almost 4,500 visitors on Sunday, whereas an average mid-week day clocks up 1,000 to 2,000.

Ski 4 Kids with Cancer update from Glenn Geary

SKI FOR KIDS WITH CANCER
Location:SHELLEY BEACH, MANLY, SYDNEY – NEWCASTLE HARBOUR, N.S.W.
Time: 8:00AM Sunday, June 12th

Hi Guys

Just to bring you up to speed with the Ski 4 Kids with Cancer 2011

I have spoken to Kerry Eagle who is happy that we name the outright single skier events the Peter Eagle trophy, We will have a Men’s and Women’s Plaque, I will need to know if there is any interest in any under 16’s single skiers (boys and girls)

Hogs Breath Cafe Newcastle has been confirmed as the finish line. Our
problem last year was getting fed and watered, (this year we will have our own bar and a fixed menu so shouldn’t be any delays)

In case in inclement weather on the 12th June, I will have an aquatic license for the 2 following Sundays 19th and 26th June

We will be limited to 50 Vessels competing in the event (for the obvious logistic and safety precautions), so please get your entries in to avoid disappointment, Due to the success of last year and the Catalina and World titles not long after the event there has been a lot of interest from crews wanting to use this as a training run

We will also be having prizes for the highest fundraising teams, one popular suggestion is to sponsor the skiers per Kilometre Skied, (20 cents a kilometre is $24)

Don’t forget as much as this is a fun event and a great day out I will be unashamedly trying to extract as much needed funds to support HMRI and their research into childhood cancers last year we raised 3k this year who know?

I am also looking for volunteers to assist on the day; at least 2 course boats are required to follow the fleet 120km up to Newcastle, 1 for the Paramedic and safety equipment and also safety boats, if you can help out in any way please contact me on the numbers below

For the Teams who competed last year once again a very heartfelt thank you and any suggestions on how to improve this year would be very much appreciated please feel free to contact me anytime on the numbers below.

Have a Great weekend
