Thanks to Sue Fleming, below are the results from the British National Water Ski Racing Championships that took place at the holiday seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare on Sunday 27 July.

Rachel Casson’s 170kph fall in 1991

One of Britain’s great Women’s ski racers in history is Rachel Casson. At the 1991 Worlds in Darwin Australia, as she was about to win one of the Women’s rounds, she took a horrendous fall at 170kph.

Funeral Arrangements for Dennis Rowbottom

The funeral for Dennis Rowbottom is to take place at the Paramount Theatre 392 High st Echuca, Victoria, Australia at 1pm on Wednesday 6th August 2008. Following this service there will be a graveside service at Echuca Cemetery (Warren st Echuca), with the wake taking place at the Echuca Aerodrome (Echuca – Kyabram road)

World Record of 100 skiers

Neville Fry of Cairns, Australia has provided some footage from his video of the Water Ski Record that the Cairns And District Power Boat & Ski Club set back in 1986.

Steve Rowe’s 110mph Bunny Hop

Steve Rowe was captured at approx 110mph in the Men’s Open race at the South Australian Titles in June. The photographer was Jason Dick.

The 1st Bernico Poker Run

On 9th & 10th August 2008, the 1st ‘Bernico Poker Run‘ will be run in Belgium. The idea for this exclusive event was conceived by two friends, Nico Bertels (Bernico International) and Ben Maes (Jet Logistics) – both boat and water sport fanatics.

Captain America Hits LA TV & Newspapers

Long Beach Press Telegram reported on the 60th Catalina Water Ski Race featuring the shot below of Ski Racing’s Captain America, aka Jeff Barrus. He also appeared on LA’s Channel 5 news in “Photo of The Day”.

Karl Brooks Memorial

July 2008 At the closing ceremony of the 2008 European Water Ski Racing Championships, Karen and Martin Brooks collected an award on behalf of their son Karl Brooks, who was tragically lost in June 2007. EAME Racing Chairman Mike Waterman presented the award.

Euro Championships – 7 July Update

With Britain suffering extremely high winds across the country, a decision was made at 9.30am this morning to cancel today’s racing. Officials have arranged for an alternative venue to be used tomorrow (Herne Bay – 15 miles away) if the conditions remain unsuitable tomorrow.

Recently, Greg Dutton and Emma Duckworth were made life members of the New Zealand Water Ski Racing Association (NZWSRA). Many from around the world will remember ‘Fido’ and ‘Emms’ from New Zealand in 2007 as together they pulled off one of the greatest World Water Ski Racing Championships ever.
