Italy Reunion – 40 Years of Water Ski Racing Italy

Guido Bollen writes tells us that some prominent water ski racers (Carlo, Stefano, David, Piero, Antonello, Marina, etc…) have put their hands together to organise a reunion to celebrate a special occasion of 40 years of water ski racing in Italy. To meet again with all water ski racing friends we have not seen for many years.
Last week when Guido was in Italy these charismatic characters of water ski racing contacted him and it is the intention that water ski racers (from the past and present times) from all over the World participate in this event. Perhaps even to see a closed door re-opened to watch the re-emergence of infamous “GIRO DI LARIO” move back onto the international water ski racing stage.
This reunion will take place on Saturday November 29th, 2008 in the “Centro Nautico Garlate” and will be followed by a dinner in “Hotel Nuovo” at Garlate (both well know under to Giro de Lario fans).

I hope this does open the door to bring the Giro Del Lario back! Never had the chance to do that race.

The Giro Del Lario was the highlight for me in the racing calendar.

Be sure Belgium will be present (including old friends)! Know those guys for over 30 year and had the chance to be chief judge more than once at the Giro!! Will certainly attend! good luck with the organisation. Vera & family

Carlo and everyone……
I too hope this is the beginning of bringing back the Gio del Lario. I am now looking at posters for that race from as far back as 1981, each one was a thrill.

Ciao from the boys from Edinburgh. We loved coming down to the giro. We’ve hit an empty keg of beer the first time, we blew the engine up the second time, the sweet sounding Johnson’s midsection napped in half the third time. The last time, after an awful start, we caught up to the boys after they made a mistake on the top corner. Siting in second place, we ran out of gas 5 miles from the finish line. So, we’ve go some od scores to settle and unfinished buisiness. Please bring the Giro Dilario back.

What a great night this will be .
The Giro rates right up there with the Diamond Race , Catalina , The Bridge and the Southern 80 . It would be fantastic to see it back.
While you guys are having a drink , see if any of you can dig up some footage of the Worlds that where held in Italy
