Here are some of the latest updates in Bianca Schauerhofer’s database of water ski racing world champion teams:

1979 Men’s World Champion Wayne Ritchie
“My observer was Rod Kell – interestingly it was the first and only time he ever observed for me. I was on a fiberglass Maha.”

1987 Men’s World Champion Steve Moore MBE
“I used a Kustom Ski for those worlds.”

1979 Women’s World Champion Bronwyn (Wright) Wing
“Clive Griffiths drove for me. He was from Northern England and the boat was a Fletcher. Norm Lee was my observer.”

Many thanks to the dozens of people who have helped with this project so far. Bianca is also looking to include a head and shoulders shot of every person in the list so please send through photos too. Every team will also eventually have a dedicated page here on skirace.net

great job bianca, this is great for the sport to have and refer too, they are all legends!!! I took this spreadsheet to my parents and they were able to fill in a couple things…

1999 jr boys driver was howard haig (dont know the observer) but it was a 21′ schiada boat name was “hondo” engine was a twin turbo and he skied on a maja. 1999 jr girls driver was randy davis with dennis hall observing, boat was a cyclone “prime time” and had a twin turbo chevy, she also skied on a DC i believe.

1993 kirk book’s driver was my dad “Billy Dunsmore” and Alex Herrera observing, the boat was a 21′ Schiada named “suddenly” it was a turbo charged chevy. Kirk skied on a Grant Torrens and was a legend!!! i remember these races so vividly, book and stafano gregorio were head to head the entire time! mom and leanne brown had great races as well, mom ended up losing by two seconds!

1989 marsha fitzgerald skied behind ron tesarski and mike king observed. boat was a 21′ hallett vecotr named 600 quicker, engine was a turbo charged chevy and marsha skied on a grant torrens as well.

hope this helps, everyone on this spreadsheet are all legends in my book…what dedication it takes to be a world champ! thanks for doing this, they deserve some recognition!

    Hi Bianca,
I believe Tami kahn driver was Peter Swinnen, boatowner was Bart Smets, the engine was evinrude V8 3.6L , not 225 V6.
Steven moore skied, I believe behind Ring 21
    2x Merc 2.4 , called waterbird.

keep up with this good work

Who observed for Wayne Ritchie when he won the 1st world championships in 1979?

Wayne skied behind Jeff Price driving “The Business”.

It was Norm Lee who observed for 1979 World Champion Bronwyn (Wright) Wing in those same worlds with Clive Griffiths Driving.
