It was great to see Executive Officer of British Water Ski, Patrick Donovan, supporting the recent European Championships at Ramsgate, not forgetting the fact that he worked hard with many others in the run up to this international event that attracted almost 100 skiers from all over Europe, Australia and the USA. Patrick has just published the following:

2008 European Championships
and Major Sponsorship Success
Congratulations to everyone involved in the 2008 European Ski Racing Championships and what has proved to be one of the most successful events of the season so far in terms of spectacle and sponsorship acquisition to support the sport. In total £90k was invested in the whole of the week surrounding the event comprising of sponsorship from Thanet District Council, Port of Ramsgate Harbour Authority and major sponsorship from local commercial sponsors.
Such was the attention to detail that the local brewery even issued a special label bottled Racing beer for the final night banquet! Logistically the event was very challenging to host however with a very strong organising committee and local support the event ran extremely smoothly.
Following on from a sunshine baked opening ceremony attended by local council dignitaries, the British Water Ski Honorary President Lord Moynihan and a packed harbour the event was marred by very poor weather earlier in the week.
However thankfully the event ended on a high note – near perfect conditions on the final day in a bay which is an excellent venue for the sport and provides very good viewing for spectators.
The final night banquet on Saturday was attended by an exuberant and very loud 400 and the event closed with a spectacular firework display over Ramsgate harbour. Very clearly Racing have pulled off a major success here with the local council now very keen to bid for other major events and to turn Ramsgate into a regular Racing venue …
Congratulations to all those involved with particular thanks to Tony Williams for his professionalism and tireless energy, Barry Frame for his very hard work and logistical brilliance in bringing this event to fruition, all the members of the Racing Committee, Alan Goggin for attending on behalf of EAME, all the officials and helpers and in particular thanks to Robbie Llewellyn for 5 days of commentating without losing his voice and communicating each day’s event highlights via www.skirace.net
