Norm Griffin Update – 11 August

Update – 11 August by Louise

We’ve had another upset in the Griffin family with Mum (June Griffin) in the Sydney Adventist Hospital at Wahroonga after having major surgery last Tuesday.  She has definitely some bad days since the operation but seems to be improving by the day.  Visiting Hours at the hospital are anytime except between 1pm – 3pm.  For updates and more info you can contact either Lynette on 0407 452 097 or Louise on 0407 072 819.

Also a quick update on Dad – he is recovering well and is hoping to be back on the road driving again once he visits the specialist on Friday.  Mum being in hospital has probably set his recovery back a little but we are all busy trying to keep him on track and occupied.
Update – 8 July by Louise

Just a quick update on Dad……Yesterday he had a defribillator inserted and should be able to go home either tomorrow or Thursday. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to going home. He would like to thank everyone who has called, visited and sent their best wishes and Im sure he will be in contact if not in person but by phone over the next few weeks.

Our family would also like to thank everyone for their best wishes and support over the last couple of weeks as it was just as big a shock to us as it would have been to many of you.

Update – 1 July by Louise
I have just been to see dad this morning after he was in a bit of shock yesterday with the Dr telling him that he had had a massive heart attack and that he could drop dead at anytime. We all know how dad hates bad news so he went into a bit of shock and thought there was no hope.

After talking with the Dr this morning the next 4 – 8 weeks will be the most critical for him. He needs to do absolutely NOTHING!! over that period to give the heart time to heal. Abviously his heart will never be the same and the most he can expect is about 40%. Tomorrow they will run more test on his heart and from there they will know what sort of stress his heart can cope with.
He is expected home to remain in Westmead Hospital until at least the weekend with visitors more than welcome.

He is that he will be unable to make it to Foster on the weekend for the reunion and hopes you all have a great time.

Louise

Some older readers will recall the infamous Louise J boats that Norm raced many years ago. I still have the photos I took of Norm driving the sensational blue Louise J on Como back at the 1981 Worlds in Italy. I wish you a good recovery Norm. – Best wishes, Robbie.

Norm’s daughter ‘Louise J’ also emailed me this morning saying; Norm is currently in Westmead Hospital after suffering a heart attack last Friday. He woke up Friday morning with a sore chest and thought he just had sore muscles after doing a bit of maintenance work to his holiday house on the Central Coast. In true Norm style he stuck out the pain until Monday when he went to take his dog for a walk and was short of breath. June took him to the Dr’s where he was immediately taken by Ambulance to hospital.

He was found to have had 2 blocked arteries and had a stent through his groin to unblock them on Monday afternoon.

Norm has his good and bad days and is at the moment having a few problems with his stomach. They are currently running tests to see what is causing this discomfort. His main concern at the moment is that he needs to be out of hospital in time for the reunion that Fred Williams is organising in Foster next weekend.

Norm is allowed visitors and the hours are 12noon – 2pm and 4pm – 8pm. June can also be contacted on 02 9654 1884 or 0418 255 042.
