Walmsley Wins Sydney Offshore 2

In perfect weather conditions and reasonable ocean conditions, with a star studded field the Sydney Offshore 2 has been won by 2007 World Champion Jason Walmsley closley followed 2 time World Champion Stephen Robertson with Peter Proctor rounding out the top 3.

The race started near Dangar Island and went out into the Ocean and down to Sydney and return (roughly 80kms).

20 teams lined up at the start and all got away cleanly, heading into the ocean there was about 7 or 8 boats abreast, 4 of the big names took control of the race with a 4 way head to head battle between Peter Proctor, Jason Walmsley, Stephen Robertson, Paul Robertson with Christ Stout not to far behind, Stephen, Jason and Peter slowly edged away leading into the turn with Paul closely following.

The run home saw Stephen and Jason step up the pace by about 5-10 mph battling for the lead closely followed by Paul Robertson, Jason pulled about 400 metres clear half way back and from there maintained that distance pretty much to the finish for the winin a time close to 50 minutes.

Stephen finished 2nd about 15 seconds behind with Proctor back in 3rd another 2 minutes or so adrift with Paul Robertson closely behind in 4th, Christ Stout finished 5th and Daniel Graziano rounded out the top 6.

All in all it was a great race for all that participated and congratulations to Jason Walmsley and his team for the Win – and keep in mind that these races are restricted to single rig outboards only and skis with a maximum limit of 74 inches.
