British Team at Rotorua

british-team.jpgTo the left is a shot of just one of the teams that have arrived at Rotorua just days before the first race of the worlds. The British Team gathered for a briefing by captain Tony Williams this evening at the Novotel (team hotel) just 100m from the water’s edge.

For those not in NZ, the weather is not at all wintery as most people went about their preparations in shorts and t-shirts today. With very little wind in the air, the water is almost miror-like and unless things change in the next few days, we’re in for some exceptionally fast racing, at least here in the first round on Rotorua. There has been an extended period of very little wind in the area lately.

The NZ organisers have done an outstanding job of pulling this event together and everything seems so well organised. Emma Duckworth explained to me earlier that this is due to the effort put in by her team of volunteers and the decision to utilise the services of New Zealand’s No.1 event organiser. What’s more, the town of Rotorua really is a great place, not to mention the outstanding lake and surrounding scenery.

I will do my best to get a podcast out on Thursday or Friday with some pre-race chat with a few people as we await the first race which takes place on Saturday.
