It has finally arrived – 2014 Club Marine Southern 80

5 Feb 2014

It has finally arrived! The Club Marine Southern 80 Water Ski Race will be held in Echuca/Moama this weekend(Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Friday hits it off with The Coates Hire Breakfast With The Stars at the Kerrabee Soundshell in Moama, from 7am – 9am. This is the chance to get up close and personal with the boats, drivers, observers, and of course the skiers who are entered in this great race. Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the breakfast. Next up, is the scrutineering and briefing. This is where the teams get their boats and safety gear checked and are also briefed on the race for the weekend. Friday night consists of the American Hotel Launch Night, where sponsors and directors get together to launch the start of the 2014 Club Marine Southern 80.

Saturday 8th Feb at 9am – 12noon is when the Total Tools Static Display will be held in Hare St Echuca – another great chance to check out the boats. The Finish Line is the place to be during the racing, with all the action down at Victoria Park Boat Ramp, Echuca. Entry is $20 per day or $30 for a weekend pass, children under 13 are free. No BYO, no glass, and no dogs please. The social classes start racing at 8am from the Torrumbarry Weir, with the Bakers Blitz, Presidents Dash and the rest of the social classes taking off from 5Mile Boat Ramp at 3.30pm. While the teams are racing their way along the river to the finish line, there are plenty of fun activities for spectators. The Money Now Corporate Area is open from 10am-5pm both Saturday and Sunday, along with trade sites on display, a huge range of food and drinks available and also the Carlton Dry Chill Out Zone. For the kids, there is the Aspen Parks Kids Playground, open 10am-4pm. Entry into the Playground is $10 per child per day, which includes activities such as face painting, Mike The Magician, Bungee Dash, and a Jumping Castle.  The Freestyle MotoX Display will be located down at the Finish Line around the trade sites. Shows will be held during 10.30am – 3pm both Saturday and Sunday, where the riders will demonstrate their skills and tricks, include massive jumps! Be sure not to miss out on that one!

Sunday’s racing will include all the above entertainment, during the racing of the expert classes – all starting at Torrumbarry Weir. The morning classes will start at 8am, with the afternoon classes starting at 12pm. Don’t miss out on the merchandise tent at the Finish Line for all this years’ Southern 80 Official Merchandise on display.

All spectators need to be reminded that the river is closed from Torrumbarry to Victoria Park, Echuca on Saturday 8th February from 6am to 12 noon and then from Goldsborough Road to Victoria Park Echuca from 12noon to 7pm.  This means that there should be no boats travelling on the river (s80ILoveexcept those involved in the race).  On Sunday there is exclusive river closure from Torrumbarry Weir to Victoria Park, Echuca from 6am to 7pm. Again, there should be no boats on the river.  It is vital to the safety of all that non-competing craft are off the water, to ensure that the event starts on time and that the competitors can compete safely. Please don’t forget, “Swim on Race Day – No Way!”

Keep an eye out for the Superclass teams this weekend, Hellrazor, Merc Force, Sapphire, Blazen, Burnin, Elm Street, 99 Psycho Clowns, Gassa, Superman, The Mistress, Top Gun and The Syndicate, who will all be battling it out to come home first place and win the 2014 Club Marine Southern 80. Good luck and safe racing to all the competitors!
