IWSF Congress Approves Belgium Worlds Bid

Today, Kuno Ritschard, President of the IWSF announced that the IWSF Congress has approved Belgium’s bid to host the 2009 World Water Ski Racing Championships unanymously, subject to the IWSF World Racing Council’s approval of the technical requirements.

This is tremendous news for Belgium which has been working hard since informing the IWSF Racing Council in May, of its intention to bid for the Worlds. Belgium was set a deadline for that bid an the deadline was met, through the comitted hard work and dedication of a Belgians who last hosted the Worlds in 1995. Many people in water ski racing believe it’s time for Belgium to host another Worlds.

Other nations have expressed an interest in hosting the event but at the time of the IWSF Congress in Linz, only Belgium’s bid had been received. These other nations are encouraged to present their bid to the IWSF as soon as possible for the 2011 World Racing Championships.

In the meantime, as a Belgium Worlds draws closer to confirmation, competitors in the world of water ski racing are already setting their sights on what they might achieve on the world stage, two years from now.

All that remains is for the IWSF Racing Council to fairly demonstrate its support for Belgium’s bid and simply approve the technical requirements.
