Pico, Dipple, Mawer & Hook do Green Island 1990

Neville Fry of Cairns, Australia shares this piece of archived footage of the 1990 Cairns to Green Island Ski Race.

That year’s event had some of the best ski racers that have ever competed in the event’s history. Here are a few of them:

There was Mark Pickering – former World Champion who was skiing two up with the then current World Champion Ian Dipple (RIP).

Then there is 16 year old Wayne Mawer – at the time, a World Champion in the making and in the decade that followed he became the World Water Ski Racing champion and the World Wakeboard Champion.

The other skier is a Howie Hook – a guy who pushed both Mark and Wayne to win some great Green Island Ski races and who now creates some of the best ski racing artwork in the world, including the skirace.net banner.
