It is only just over a month until the worlds’ best ski racing boats start landing on our shores, 35 in total will come from around the world, travelling from as far as Great Britain, Austria, Belgium, USA and of course Australia.

A lot of the athletes are at the stage of trying to peak for the world champs and training is a very important part of their everyday lives this close to the event.

Team New Zealand’s skiers have all just come off their own National Championships held in Taupo on the 24th & 25th March.  All our skiers came out of the weekend without injuries and are in extremely good shape for the up coming event.

Four of the six reigning world champions from the Hunstanton, England worlds are coming to our shores to multiply their achievements.   Men’s Formula 1 champion Todd Haig is looking to dominate as he did in all four races in the last world champs.

British skier, Kim Lumley is looking forward to travelling to New Zealand as she has never been here before.  She is the reigning Formula 1 women’s champion and says “the only pressure and expectations I have to deal with are the ones that I put on myself.  The 2007 World Championships will be the 7th Worlds I have competed in.  Throughout that time I have learnt a lot – experience is something that can’t be brought.  I am very happy to say I feel very positive going into these worlds.”

The World Champs take place from the 10th to the 19th of May with the Opening Ceremony and Parade of nations in Rotorua on Friday the 11th in Rotorua, followed by Round 1 on Saturday 12th. Rounds 2 and 3 shift to Taupo on the Monday and Wednesday – 14th and 16th respectively with the forth and final round happening on Saturday the 19th back in Rotorua followed by the final awards evening and closing ceremony that night.

The Rock is the official Radio station of the world champs and Rotorua’s Daily Post Newspaper will be advertising and covering the build up to the event. So keep your eyes and ears out to these media. Keep checking out www.skirace.co.nz for other event information.
